State-Facilitated Tax Increment Financing for Brownfields Redevelopment
Northeast-Midwest Institute was recently asked by Smart Growth America to produce a policy piece on State-Facilitated Tax Increment Financing for Brownfields Redevelopment, which is an excerpt from the forthcoming SGA publication. NEMW also updated their more comprehensive paper, Using Tax Increment Financing for Brownfields Redevelopment. Evans Paull looks at the challenges of using tax increment finance to promote the redevelopment of brownfields sites. The report looks at how states can modify their TIF statutes to facilitate brownfields redevelopment using TIF and presents case study examples.

CDFA Legislative Front: Election Slows Events On Capitol Hill

While there has been plenty of talk on Capitol Hill this past month, it has been very hard to move forward with legislation in the current climate. Very little has been voted on since the passage of the rescue package that included many development finance items in October, including many green financing provisions and New Markets Tax Credits reauthorization.
