Call for Entries- 2007 Practitioner’s Showcase: Best TIF Program

Last year, CDFA introduced its new annual award program called the Practitioner’s Showcase. The event, which included a live audience vote to select the country's Best IDB Program, was a resounding success. For 2007, the Practitioner’s Showcase is back featuring a different development finance topic.

TIF has emerged as the leading economic development finance tool in the country. As its use has grown, the creativity and implementation of the tool has increased tenfold. The 2007 Practitioner's Showcase will recognize outstanding development finance programs and success stories from the tax increment finance industry.

CDFA is starting off the New Year strong with a renewed focus on legislative priorities that improve the tools used in the development finance industry. January was a busy month for the legislative team. Here is a quick rundown of the Council’s legislative efforts this past month.
Efficient and Strategic TIF Use: A Guide for Wisconsin Municipalities
New Report from the Center on Wisconsin Strategy
This new guide from the Center on Wisconsin Strategy, provides a background on the history of TIF in the state, how the payback system works and the types of financing available in tax improvement districts. The guide also looks at the implementation of TIF and both the costs and benefits for its implementation. In addition, the guide also makes recommendations for improving the TIF tool.


Learning from Experience: A Primer on Tax Increment Financing
How the No. 7 Subway Project in New York City Used TIF
This piece looks at the No. 7 Subway project in New York City and gives a project summary, explains in detail the usage of TIF, as well as typically TIF funded projects. The article takes note of some precautions to using the TIF tool to give the reader a fuller understanding of this popular economic development tool.
