    The Intro Brownfields Finance Course is the industry’s only comprehensive training curriculum that helps economic developers, policy makers and real estate professionals understand and master the financing strategies for the lifecycle of a brownfield property.     Trending Topic Workshop: Blending Capital: How Impact Investing Can Advance Economic Development Finance

    CDFA has jointly partnered with the Initiative for Responsible Investment and Mission Investors Exchange to explore the potential for alignment between foundations and traditional economic development finance agencies. This special workshop will launch a national conversation aimed at understanding how small investments from foundations can be made in existing and proven development finance programs and how that support could be leveraged to advance social, community, and economic priorities. Our expert panel will discuss how new partnerships could be developed to create guarantees, credit enhancements, or capital access programs with foundation-related impact investments through state and local development finance agencies. Topics discussed include:

    • How do you identify partners in the impact investing community?
    • What is the size and scope of impact investment funds and how might they be used to support development finance initiatives?
    • What types of financing tools might be implemented to see expanded job creation in distressed communities or underserved markets?

Financed in part through tax-exempt revenue bonds from JEDA and conveniently located in downtown Charleston, the South Carolina Aquarium offers an intimate look at many of South Carolina’s native animals and plants as well as an array of exotic marine life. The impressive Great Ocean Tank, picturesque views of Charleston Harbor, and newly installed Shark Shallows exhibit are can't miss experiences in Charleston!

    CDFA will provide transportation to and from the aquarium for all registered participants starting at 6:00pm. Special guest registrations are available for the reception.

    Join your fellow CDFA National Summit attendees for a friendly jog through historic Charleston Battery Park. A landmark reinforced seawall, the Charleston Battery is bordered by the Ashley and Cooper Rivers forming the Charleston harbor. The run will depart promptly at 6:30am as the sun rises over Charleston. Runners will wind their way through downtown Charleston, around Battery Park, and then back to the hotel. The total distance of the run is approximately 3 miles. Runners are encouraged to dress appropriately for the weather and to bring plenty of water. In the event of inclement weather, the run will be cancelled.

    No trip to Charleston is complete without a tour of Fort Sumter, the site of the first shots fired in the American Civil War. A special addition to the 2015 CDFA National Summit, join your fellow attendees for boat ride and tour of this preserved piece of American history. Once aboard the boat, you will experience a relaxing 30 minute narrated cruise to historic Fort Sumter. The Fort houses an informative museum with many historic artifacts and a souvenir shop. National Park Service Rangers are available to provide further details as you explore Fort Sumter.

    This is an extra fee event that requires a special registration. The registration fee includes transportation to and from the hotel, boat ride to and from Fort Sumter, one hour of exploration time at Fort Sumter, and a boxed lunch.
