How CDFIs Support Community and Economic Development in Low- and Moderate-Income Areas
New Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland research shows that community development financial institutions (CDFIs) are more than lenders—they're key connectors in the financial ecosystem. Drawing on interviews with 10 CDFI loan funds, this report examines how CDFIs leverage mission-driven financing, technical assistance, and community expertise to drive economic development in underserved areas. Valuable reading for economic developers, lenders, and community development professionals.
CDFA's Bipartisan Modernizing Agricultural and Manufacturing Bonds Act (MAMBA) Introduced in U.S. House
CDFA, along with NCOSAFP, are pleased to announce that U.S. Representatives Darin LaHood (IL-16), Randy Feenstra (IA-04), Terri Sewell (AL-07) and Dwight Evans (PA-03) have introduced the Modernizing Agricultural and Manufacturing Bonds Act (MAMBA) in the U.S. House on Tuesday, June 2, as H.R. 9100. How RI Structured a $120M Housing Bond to Address Multiple Housing Challenges
The significance of Rhode Island's Housing 2030 bond extends beyond the amount of funding involved. Its most notable feature may be the way the funding was structured. By creating targeted set-asides within a larger housing investment strategy, RI sought to align public resources with those specific challenges rather than expecting a single program to meet every need. In an era of persistent housing shortages and increasingly diverse housing needs, the structure of an investment may be just as important as its size.
HUD NOFO: Lead-Safe and Healthy Homes Financing Demonstration
This NOFO announces up to $10M to support a National Fund Manager to design and manage a Lead-Safe and Healthy Homes Financing Demonstration. The Fund will be a national platform to pool public and private capital to accelerate the reduction of residential lead exposure, particularly childhood lead poisoning, and improve housing-related health conditions in low-income communities. Applications due August 3, 2026.
HUD NOFO: Section 4 Capacity Building for Community Development and Affordable Housing
The purpose of this program is to enhance the capacity and ability of Community Development Corporations (CDCs) and Community Housing Development Organizations (CHDOs) to carry out community development and affordable housing activities that benefit low-income persons, the homeless, physically disabled persons, first responders, and veterans. Applications are due July 6, 2026.
SBA NOFO: Federal and State Technology (FAST) Partnership Program
The primary mission of the FAST program is to strengthen the technological competitiveness of small businesses in the United States. The FAST program provides yearly funding to eligible organizations to execute state-based programs, which may also collaborate regionally, that raise awareness of the SBIR/STTR programs, educate small businesses on new and ongoing program requirements, increase application submission and awards, and reach all eligible small businesses. Applications are due July 16, 2026.
