Illinois Announces $350M for Small Business Support
Illinois is set to receive $354.6 million in federal funding for four state programs to help small businesses, the U.S. Treasury announced. The money will help Illinois small businesses attract more capital investment and expand or launch business operations,
Three Affordable Housing Projects Move Forward in Saint Paul, MN
The City's bold housing goals for the Highland Bridge redevelopment site took an important step forward with the approval of financing for three new affordable housing projects. These developments will be funded in part with multifamily housing revenue bonds, Low-Income Housing Tax Credits, and Tax Increment Financing.
Maine Businesses Receive Federal Money for Renewable Energy Upgrades
USDA Rural Development Maine State Director Rhiannon Hampson announced that eight businesses are receiving a total of $514,000 in grants through the Rural Energy for America Program. These grants are in addition to an $82.4M Hampson announced earlier in the month to combat climate change, invest in infrastructure, expand economic opportunities, and rehabilitate homes in rural Maine.
Construction Starts on $115M Hilton-Flag Hotel in Louisville, KY
The hotel on site will be a Tempo by Hilton, a new brand from the hospitality company. As one of the first locations of the new brand, the six-story, 98,000-square-foot hotel will have 130 rooms. Louisville Metro Council committee approved an ordinance to create a new tax increment financing district to support the development.
U.S. Economic Development Administration Receives $1.6B in Omnibus Bill
In the Omnibus Spending Bill, enacted on December 29, 2022, the U.S. Economic Development Administration (EDA) received $1.6B for FY 2023. EDA will receive $750M for grants for Regional Technology and Innovation Hubs, the Recompete Pilot Program, and the Build to Scale Program, as well as $500M for infrastructure and recovery efforts for areas impacted by natural disasters and $363M for other Economic Development Assistance programs.
President Biden Signs $1.7T Government Spending Bill
President Joe Biden signed a $1.7T spending bill that includes several administration priorities and officially avoids a government shutdown, ending what he called a "year of historic progress." The legislation includes $772.5B for nondefense discretionary programs and $858B in defense funding. It will also boost spending for disaster aid, college access, child care, mental health, and food assistance.
$158M from Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Accelerating Connecticut Bridge Repair
The U.S. Department of Transportation awarded the state Department of Transportation $158.2 million through its competitive Bridge Investment Program to "accelerate" the rehabilitation project of the Gold Star Memorial Bridge in Connecticut. Created under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, the BIP is the single largest dedicated federal investment in the nation's bridges since the construction of the interstate highway system.
