FL Lawmakers Agree to State Budget Deal, Cut Incentives
Homeowners won't see property tax increases, a state reservoir will be built south of Lake Okeechobee and economic development agencies will be drastically cut under a broad budget deal reached between the House and Senate. The deal leaves many of Gov. Rick Scott's top priorities on the cutting room floor. He called for $100 million for Visit Florida and $85 million in incentives for Enterprise Florida, as well as $618 million in tax cuts aimed mostly at businesses.
FL Senior Housing Proposal Gets High Marks, Seeks Tax Credits
A local church wants to make sure older residents no longer have to decide between, food, medicine or an affordable place to live, and its plan drew rave reviews from Cape Coral City Council. The church intends to apply for low income housing tax credits for a mixed-use development through the Florida Housing Finance Corporation.
Winter Park, FL, Updates Comp Plan and Joins PACE District
Winter Park city commissioners approved a comprehensive plan update. The comprehensive plan covers everything from transportation to development throughout the city. They also approved a resolution for a Party Membership Agreement and its incorporated interlocal agreement, in order to join the Florida Resiliency and energy District's Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) Program.
Editorial: Incentives Needed to Lure High-Paying Employers in FL
Since Florida House Speaker Richard Corcoran started calling Enterprise Florida "corporate welfare" and vowed to get rid of the agency that offers tax incentives for jobs, the Bradenton Area Economic Development Corp. says the number of leads it gets about potential businesses has declined by half.
Budget Cuts and Bills Threatens CRA in FL
Both the mayor and Council member Lisa Wheeler-Bowman took aim at the Trump administration for its efforts in shutting down the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program and its proposed cuts to the Housing and Urban Development (HUD) budget recently. The city receives more than $3 million in CDBG funds and millions in HUD housing assistance.

South Florida's crop-growing regions are disappearing due to a number of different factors, causing many farmers to lose large amounts of capital.
CDFA National Summit Call for Submissions
CDFA is accepting sessions submissions for the 2017 National Development Finance Summit in Atlanta this November. Session submissions on deals, projects or programs that include multiple funding sources are highly encouraged. Submissions are due by May 12, 2017.
FL Passenger Train Project Faces New Headwinds
All Aboard Florida is assuring supporters of the project that it will move forward despite the pending sales of its owner and an affiliate. At the same time, AAF is warning that a bill being heard by state lawmakers could jeopardize plans to expand service from West Palm Beach to Orlando and beyond.
