Pennsylvania's Tax Increment Financing Act has recently generated some local controversy, prompting discussions to clarify misconceptions and to reexamine the law's scope and purpose.

Board Makes Downtown Harrisburg TIF Official
The Harrisburg Downtown Tax Increment Finance District Joint Review Board approved a $19.2 million TIF. Street lighting, sidewalks and parking lot paving are three priorities of council for the downtown.

$2.5B Transportation Bill Needed, Say PA Leaders
Business and labor groups urged the state House to swiftly approve a Senate-passed bill to provide $2.5 billion for transportation needs, saying the investment would keep Pennsylvania competitive.

$230M Project Aided by TIF Will Employ 1,000+ Workers
When it opens in 2015, Monroe County's newest attraction — Kalahari Resort and Convention Center — is expected to draw millions of additional vacation and convention dollars to the region. The $230 million Tobyhanna Township project is aided by a $26 million tax increment financing district and the rest of the financing will come from a collection of 40 to 50 community banks.

Butler, Allegheny Counties Land PPG Headquarters
This project is expected to generate an investment in excess of $14 million for infrastructure, equipment and employee training, creating more than 300 jobs between two sites. The project was coordinated by the Governor's Action Team in collaboration with the Allegheny Conference on Community Development, Allegheny County and Butler County.

Theater Project in Sewickley Gets Grant from State Fund
A planned movie theater in Sewickley is another step closer to its first showing, after organizers received a $350,000 grant from the state Gaming Economic Development and Tourism Fund, bringing total support for the Village Theater Co.'s project to more than $1.2 million.
