Federal Judge Dismisses Lawsuit over Bonds for All Aboard Florida's Brightline
A Federal judge ruled that the lawsuits filed by Martin and Indian River counties challenging All Aboard Florida's plan to sell tax-exempt bonds were moot because the US DOT has withdrawn its 2014 approval granting Brightline permission to sell up to $1.75 billion in bonds to pay for the rail project.
FL Gov. Rick Scott Unhappy With Lack of Key Incentives in New Budget
Florida Governor Rick Scott is unhappy with the state budget the Florida Legislature passed which cuts Enterprise Florida and reduces Visit Florida funding. Scott is a staunch supporter of both of these agencies which he credits with helping to add more than 1.3 million private sector jobs in Florida since he was elected.
Renewable-Energy Tax Break Bill Headed to Rick Scott in FL
The Florida Legislature has passed a bill that will give a renewable-energy tax break to commercial and industrial properties with solar installations. The measure (SB 90) was sent to Gov. Rick Scott after passing the Senate unanimously. If signed into law, businesses that install solar panels to their properties would not have to pay additional property taxes from the increased value of adding such devices.
Florida First Capital Leads SBA Loan Production in FL
Halfway through the Small Business Administration's (SBA) 2017 fiscal year, Florida First Capital maintained its lead in SBA 504 loan production in Florida, both in number of loans and dollar totals.
FL Lawmakers Agree to State Budget Deal, Cut Incentives
Homeowners won't see property tax increases, a state reservoir will be built south of Lake Okeechobee and economic development agencies will be drastically cut under a broad budget deal reached between the House and Senate. The deal leaves many of Gov. Rick Scott's top priorities on the cutting room floor. He called for $100 million for Visit Florida and $85 million in incentives for Enterprise Florida, as well as $618 million in tax cuts aimed mostly at businesses.
FL Senior Housing Proposal Gets High Marks, Seeks Tax Credits
A local church wants to make sure older residents no longer have to decide between, food, medicine or an affordable place to live, and its plan drew rave reviews from Cape Coral City Council. The church intends to apply for low income housing tax credits for a mixed-use development through the Florida Housing Finance Corporation.
Winter Park, FL, Updates Comp Plan and Joins PACE District
Winter Park city commissioners approved a comprehensive plan update. The comprehensive plan covers everything from transportation to development throughout the city. They also approved a resolution for a Party Membership Agreement and its incorporated interlocal agreement, in order to join the Florida Resiliency and energy District's Property Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) Program.
After Clearing ‘Jungle,' Bradenton, FL Officials Celebrate First Redevelopment Project
A professional complex — Parkwood Professional Center — located along that corridor will become Manatee County's first major public-private redevelopment project in the Southwest District and used TIF funds to aid in the development.
