$269M Approved for WA Affordable Housing
The Washington State Housing Finance Commission approved a total of $269.5 million in financing for the rehabilitation or new construction of more than 1,100 affordable apartments. The nine projects range from much-needed rehabilitation of public housing in Aberdeen to new apartments for the homeless.

$7M in WA Clean Energy Fund Grants Advance Avista Microgrids
Spokane-based private utility Avista, and the Snohomish County Public Utility District (SnoPUD), each were awarded $3.5 million from the Washington Clean Energy Fund to further their innovative work on electricity "microgrid" projects.

Startup Spokane Reaching More WA Entrepreneurs
In the first quarter of 2017 alone, Startup Spokane, a program of Greater Spokane Incorporated, met with 70 aspiring and early startup business owners, nearly half the 170 owners it met with in all of last year.

Water Rights Law is Damaging to Rural WA Economic Development
Despite this historically wet winter, there is a huge political fight underway about the scarcity of water. At issue are Washington's Byzantine water laws. The law balances century-old water claims for municipalities and farmers with tribal rights to fish. The law grants limited exemptions for well drilling too.

The man running the Key­Arena renovation proposal process says Seattle Mayor Ed Murray's decision not to run for re-election will have zero impact on proceedings. SP is seeking up to $250 million in public-bond funds for its $521 million proposal.
