More Than $8B After White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health
The White House announces a historic package of new funding and actions that business, civic, academic, and philanthropic leaders will take to end hunger and to reduce diet-related disease. At least $2.5 billion will be invested in start-up companies that are pioneering solutions to hunger and food insecurity. Over $4 billion will be dedicated toward philanthropy that improves access to nutritious food, promotes healthy choices, and increases physical activity.

Culinary Food Hub Breaks Ground on Chicago, IL's South Side
Englewood Connect is a $13.9 million culinary food hub that's restoring the landmark Engine Co. 84 firehouse as a commercial kitchen and event space in the heart a south side Chicago neighborhood. City support for the project includes $6 million in Tax Increment Financing assistance and the sale of the firehouse and nearly two acres of City land, valued at $417,000, for $1.
New Jersey Gives New Support to Farmers of Color
New Jersey is taking steps to make sure farmers of color get the support they need. Gov. Phil Murphy signed a law to create a registry for minority, women, and underserved farmers, with the aim of bringing more equity to the farming community. It would, for example, provide greater access to loans, which farmers in underrepresented communities often can't get.
PVGrows Aims to Attract Investors for Fund that Supports Farmers, Food Businesses
The Pioneer Valley Grows Investment Fund has launched a new Social Impact Pool to support local farmers' and food entrepreneurs' businesses. The program is administered by the Greenfield, Massachusetts-based Franklin County Community Development Corp and has raised $2.2 million for 55 farms and food system businesses through the fund's first seven years in operation.
Opportunity Zone Completes Eastern North Carolina's Most Innovative Grain Bin System
Promised Land Opportunity Zone Farms I, LLC, an opportunity zone investment vehicle, is thrilled to announce the grand opening of its state-of-the-art grain bin system in Pamlico County, North Carolina. The property taxes on the new grain facility will add to the tax base of Pamlico County, create jobs, and house over 350,000 bushels of grain crops.
Historic Investment in Partnerships for 70 Climate-Smart Commodities and Rural Projects
The Biden-Harris Administration is investing up to $2.8 billion through the USDA in 70 selected projects under the Partnerships for Climate-Smart Commodities funding opportunity that will create market opportunities for American commodities produced using climate-smart production practices. These initial projects will expand markets for climate-smart commodities, leverage the greenhouse gas benefits of climate-smart commodity production and provide direct, meaningful benefits to production agriculture, including for small and underserved producers.
