Hazelwood Redevelopment Project Gets $80M TIF from Pittsburgh URA
The proposed $1B redevelopment of the former LTV Coke Works in Hazelwood got a shot in the arm when the city's Urban Redevelopment Authority board authorized up to $80M in special financing for the project. The $80M in TIF proceeds would be used to pay for on-site and off-site transportation improvements related to the project.

Building Pennsylvania Program Guidelines
The Commonwealth Financing Authority (CFA), through the Building Pennsylvania Program, shall provide loans to fund managers for investment in real estate projects within the state of Pennsylvania. These guidelines outline the nature and focus of the CFA Building Pennsylvania Program, as well as the applicable processes and procedures in the administration of this program.

PIDA Provides Low-Interest Loans to Local Manufacturers
Gov. Corbett has announced that new state investments recently approved by the Pennsylvania Industrial Development Authority will enable Summit Aerospace USA, Inc. in Monroe County and National Magnetics Group, Inc. in Northampton County to expand operations and create and retain more than 100 jobs.

PA Receives National Recognition for Economic Development
Area Development Magazine has honored Pennsylvania with a "Silver Shovel" award for its economic development success in terms of new job creation and economic growth in 2012. Pennsylvania was one of three states to receive a Silver Shovel award in the 10 million-plus population tier and the only Northeast U.S. state overall to earn recognition.

State Tech Partnership Boosts Economy by $6.6B
Ben Franklin Technology Partners released a study showing that it boosted Pennsylvania's economy by $6.6B from 2007 through 2011. The report also found that, over the same period, the state of Pennsylvania received $502M in additional tax revenue as a result of BFTP investments and counseling services.

This report looks at the costs associated with smart growth development and conventional suburban development, as well as both strategies' revenue potential. When compared to one another, Smart Growth finds sustainable development costs one-third less for upfront infrastructure, saves an average of 10 percent on ongoing delivery of services, and generates 10 times more tax revenue per acre than conventional suburban development.
