LA Bill to Create N.O. TIF District Gains Momentum
House Bill 1056 passed unopposed through a Senate committee on May 18th. If it becomes law, HB 1056 would grant the Exhibition Hall Authority power to impose its own taxes within a 47-acre economic development district.

LCG Receives TIGER Grant, Encourages Public Discussion
The Lafayette Consolidated Government received a $300,000 federal Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery grant to work with residents and business owners to identify ways to revitalize the community.

LED Supports Creation of UL Lafayette, CGI Tech Center
UL Lafayette and CGI have opened a 50,000 sq ft technology center in Lafayette, LA. Louisiana Economic Development supported the P3 through incentives and a $5.3 million grant.

LA Port of Lake Charles Struggles to Finance Dredging
Annual dredging of the Port of Lake Charles costs between $30 and $40 million, with costs expected to rise due to increasingly limited disposal sites. Officials seek $8 million annually from the state to maintain the port.

LA Bond Commission Approves $91M for Projects
The State Bond Commission has approved $91 million for projects statewide, which include the construction of sanitary sewage collection and disposal systems, improving waterworks systems, and for improving, maintaining, and/or repairing public streets.

Council Overrides E. Baton Rouge Mayor, Creates Economic Zone
The East Baton Rouge Metro Council overrode Mayor Holden's veto, establishing an economic opportunity zone. The economic opportunity zone is a district where developers can receive property tax abatements of up to 10 years for developments.
