OR Technology Business Center Receives Grant to Expand
Oregon Technology Business Center, supported by the city of Beaverton, received a $60,000 grant from the Oregon Community Foundation Fund to expand its Virtual Incubation Program to entrepreneurs in rural Oregon over the next three years.

OR May Remove Fiber Tax Break
Oregon lawmakers may kill a tax break just two years after they voted unanimously to create it. That's because the intended beneficiary, Google Fiber, has backed out of plans to serve the Portland area.

OR Bill May Provide Financing for Rural Broadband
A bill before the Oregon Legislature would allow a fund currently dedicated to ensuring access to landline phone service in underserved areas to be used to provide access to high-speed internet.

Economic Development Board May Assist Southeastern OR
This board would work to find ways to promote workforce and economic growth in the area and would have the ability to award economy-boosting grants and loans. The current bill requests $10 million for the program.

Senator Wyden Pursues Permanent OR Rail Credit
The short line railroad track maintenance credit provides short line and regional railroads a 50 percent tax credit for railroad track maintenance expenses up to $3,500 per mile of track owned or leased.

Portland Startup Opal Raises $15.5M, Plans to Double Workforce
Opal has now raised more than $25 million altogether, including an $8 million round in 2014. Chief executive Steve Giannini said this investment will fund a rapid expansion - with the company's workforce doubling this year to about 130.

OR Community Foundation Re-Ups Entrepreneurial Investment
The Oregon Community Foundation Board of Directors approved two grants and two investments aimed at bolstering resources for the state's entrepreneurs. Mainly known for philanthropy, the group has also embraced "mission related investments" that put capital into economic development programs.
