CDFI Fund Resumes Community Development Entity Certification Application Acceptance
The U.S. Department of the Treasury's CDFI Fund will resume acceptance of new applications for Certification as a Community Development Entity (CDE) effective September 9, 2025. The temporary "blackout" period, originally announced on May 5, 2025, provided an opportunity for the CDFI Fund to assess the resources available on its website. Soda Tax Funds $1.75M in Grants for Community-Led Food Equity Projects in Seattle, WA
The Seattle Department of Neighborhoods is awarding $1.75 million from its Food Equity Fund, financed through the city's Sweetened Beverage Tax, to 18 grassroots initiatives focused on food justice and access. Grants will support urban gardening, culturally relevant food distribution, youth and senior nutrition programs, and Indigenous-led food sovereignty efforts. For development finance professionals, the program demonstrates how dedicated municipal revenue streams can be leveraged to fund high-impact, community-driven health and food access projects.
Treasury Department Sets Limits on Remaining Wind and Solar Tax Credits
The Treasury Department issued guidance that narrows which wind and solar energy projects can receive the remaining tax credits that were largely eliminated under the Republicans' "big, beautiful bill." The legislation passed by Republicans last month axes the credits for projects that don't begin producing electricity by 2028. However, it contains an exemption for projects that begin construction over the next year. Under the law, those projects would remain eligible for the subsidies even if they don't produce electricity within the specified time frame.
