South Carolina Stands Tall in the Wind Energy Industry
A new report from cleanenergy.org states that South Carolina is currently home to 33 wind-energy related businesses. A recently built facility that test wind-turbine generators represents the state's largest single investment at $55 million.
SC Moves Forward on New State Crowdfunding Economic Strategy
A bill to link state economic development strategy to crowdfunding passed the South Carolina House of Representatives. Crowdsourcing.org reports that the bill would provide income tax benefits to both companies and in-state investors for making capital investments in new and existing companies.
Daimler Incentives Spur Both Praise and Criticism
The Post and Courier reports that the Daimler deal will provide annual tax credits for jobs that pay nearly one-third less that the area's average wage. Under the deal, Daimler will invest $500 million in a new plant, which will create 1,360 new jobs. Daimler can claim tax credits ranging from $798 to a maximum of $5,000 per worker for the next 10 years.
New JEDA Bonds Funds Porter-Gaud Fine Arts Center Construction
South Carolina Jobs-Economic Development Authority will finance the new construction of the Porter-Gaud Fine Arts Center Construction using $29.4 million and $6.2 million in tax-expemt and taxable revenue bonds, respectively.
