Arlington, VA's Incentive Plan for Amazon
Arlington has proposed to provide an annual pay-for-performance grant to Amazon to be funded through the Transit Occupancy Tax (TOT). The TOT is a tax on hotel rooms or other paid lodging. The money for the grant will come from 15% of the incremental TOT revenue generated for 15 years, using 2019 as the baseline.
A New Food Incubator Opens Doors to Food Entrepreneurs in Chicago, IL
The 67,000-square-foot Hatchery complex provides spaces and services for about 100 start-up or early-stage food businesses – and is expected to support up to 900 jobs over 5 years. Financing the $32.4 million development required a mixture of New Market Tax Credits (NMTC), Tax Increment Financing (TIF), grants, and traditional financing.
Painesville Township, OH TIF District to Fund Regional Detention Basin
Painesville Township, OH has created a TIF District in the northeastern section of the township to provide funding for a regional detention basin. The trustees' resolution goes on to state that 75% of improvements which would result in increased assessed value would be declared as a public purpose for a period of 10 years and exempt from taxation.
MI Community Flood Mitigation Plan Includes Special Assessment District
A Michigan community has developed a plan to mitigate the danger from flooding. The plan includes a special assessment district to raise the $800,000 cost of the project. 400 impacted home owners would be assessed about $2,000 each, over time.
Schenectady, NY Proposes Special Assessment Districts to Fix Sidewalks
The proposed program would create special assessment districts in the city, as long as 75 percent of the residents living in each district agree. Those residents would then have the option to repay the cost of the improvements in full, or in payments that would be added to their tax bills over a yet-to-be-determined pay period.
Greenfield, IN Plans $10.3M in TIF-Funded Projects Through 2023
The city of Greenfield, IN aims to spend about $10.3M in tax increment financing over the next five years on infrastructure projects, such as upgrades to the industrial park and city streets. The city has 11 proposals slated for the two districts, including a manufacturing facility, street infrastructure expansion, and a new industrial park among others.
