Innovation Works Collects $24M for Pittsburgh Tech Startup Fund
Pittsbugh-based Innovation Works has raised nearly $24 million for its newest venture fund according to Reuters. The fund will be used to invest in the region's early-stage technology companies from a variety of industries.

Hotel Lancaster First to Receive Boost from New CRIZ Program
According to LancasterOnline, Hotel Lancaster is the first project in Lancaster approved under the new CRIZ program. The CRIZ program allows state tax revenue collected within a designated zone to be used for redevelopment projects.

Hill Int'l Received a $4.5M Incentive Package from PA, Philly
Hill International will be relocating the company's headquarter from South Jersey to Philadelphia after receiving a $4.5M financial package. Philadelphia Business Journal reports the deal comes from the state and city, and includes grants, tax incentives and low interest loans.

Opinion: Corporate Welfare Complaints in Allentown Are Misguided
There are plenty of complaints on funneling millions in state tax money to private developers, but as this columnist writes, the resulting development needs to be taken into account as part of the public benefit of that investment.

Why No State Reports on the TIF Program in PA
Tax Increment Finance (TIF)
Allegheny Institute for Public Policy wrote this paper on the PA's state staute that calls for a report to determine if TIF is was working, The law required a comprehensive report to be made to the Governor and the General Assembly every two years commencing January 1, 1992. No such report has been filed as of 2013.
