The Energy Department is planning to develop a common platform for detecting cyber threats across the nation's patchwork of electric utilities under a new plan galvanized by the bipartisan infrastructure bill and a cross-governmental effort to improve the security of critical operational systems.
ESG Bonds and Green Bonds May Help Colleges' and Universities' Sustainability Plans
As colleges and universities develop and implement sustainability plans to reduce their carbon footprint, there remains the question as to how to fund these sustainability plans. In addition to federal and state grants, there is a new development in the debt market which could also lead to lower interest rates: ESG bonds and Green bonds.
Nevada Makes Historic Allocation of Tax-Exempt Bond Authority for Affordable Housing
The Nevada Housing Division announced that $300.7 million or 87 percent of Nevada's 2021 tax-exempt bonding authority has been earmarked for the development of affordable housing projects throughout the state. This historic investment is being made in the face of the acute and ongoing housing crisis that many Nevadans are facing.
Novogradac Report Shows Surge in Opportunity Zones Investment in Second Half of 2021
The Novogradac Opportunity Zones Investment Report: Data Through Dec. 31, 2021, is now available. The report shows that nearly $24.40 billion in equity was raised by 978 QOFs, as reported to Novogradac. The total investment reported by Novogradac at the end of 2021 was $6.88 billion more than at midyear, a 39.3% increase.
City Council Approves Historic $1.2B Bond in San Antonio, TX
With a unanimous vote, San Antonio City Council placed a $1.2 billion municipal bond package on the May 7 ballot on Thursday. San Antonio voters will see six different bond propositions on their ballots, for parks ($272 million), streets ($472 million), drainage ($170 million), affordable housing ($150 million), public safety facilities ($78 million) and library and cultural facilities ($58 million).
House Committee Hearing Explores Cryptocurrency Energy Use, ESG Issues, and Opportunities
On January 20, 2022, the U.S. House Committee on Energy and Commerce held a hearing on the energy consumption associated with cryptocurrency activity. Committee members discussed a wide range of topics: blockchain and its energy impact on the climate, how crypto mining can affect utilities' management of energy resources and ultimately the price consumers pay for their electricity, and much more.
USDA Unveils Resource Guide to Help Rural Entrepreneurs Start and Grow Businesses
USDA Rural Development unveiled a resource guide to help people in rural America start and grow businesses, create good-paying jobs in their communities and strengthen America's economy. The guide features information on how rural entrepreneurs can use USDA and other Federal programs to access financing and other assistance to help start and expand their businesses.
Legislation Advances to Strengthen Farms, Bolster Minority Inclusion Through NJ Farmer Registry
The Senate Economic Growth Committee advanced legislation that would direct the Department of Agriculture to establish a New Jersey Minority, Women, and Underserved Farmer Registry. This registry would coordinate outreach to minority, women, disabled, LGBTQIA+, and socially disadvantaged farmers in the State who have been historically underserved by farm loan assistance programs.
