Developer Pools 24 FL Properties in $130M Bond Deal
Greystone Affordable Housing Initiatives announced the closing of a $130 million multifamily housing transaction in Florida. The statewide pooled transaction involves 24 aged U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development Sec. 515 properties, comprising 1,058 apartment homes serving low-income households in 12 counties. They are owned and operated by The Hallmark Cos.
FL Cat Fund in Best Financial Shape Ever
The Florida Hurricane Catastrophe Fund says it's in its best financial shape ever, though $454 million in damage claims have been filed across the state because of Hurricane Matthew.
Insider Reveals Deceptive Strategy Behind FL's Solar Amendment
The Florida Supreme Court approved the Amendment 1 language in a 4-3 vote, concluding the proposal was not misleading but did enshrine into the Constitution protections consumers already had. Justice Pariente, in her dissenting opinion, called the language "a wolf in sheep's clothing" because it would allow utilities to raise fees on solar customers and was "masquerading as a pro-solar energy initiative."
Venice City Council Seeks County Grant Funds to Revitalize Seaboard Area
The Venice City Council agreed Monday to seek county grant funds to help revitalize the Seaboard area of the city. Specifically, the council is hoping for Sarasota County's assistance to pay for a study of the area between the Intracoastal Waterway and U.S. 41 Bypass, from the north driveway of Venetia Bay Boulevard, south to Center Road.
Florida Community Loan Fund Providing $13.5M to Lotus House
Homelessness is a large problem in Miami and Lotus House provides a shelter and support system to homeless women, youth and children. The Florida Community Loan Fund is helping them finance expansion of their buildings and rehabilitation of their deteriorating structures.
Miami to Meet Oct. 13 to Review SEC Settlement
Miami officials will hold a special meeting with attorneys to determine whether to accept a settlement with the Securities and Exchange Commission in light of a verdict finding the city guilty of securities fraud.
