City of Duluth OKs $8K in 2014 SPLOST Funds for Police Car Computers
The Duluth City Council voted to allow the agency to use interest accrued from 2014 special-purpose local-option sales tax funds. The 2014 SPLOST funds have been placed in an interest-bearing account that has accumulated $23,000 to be spent on SPLOST-eligible projects only, according to the city.
Hiram Hoping for New Life Downtown After $3M Revitalization Project
The city of Hiram is ready for a revitalization of its downtown business district after recent completion of work above and below the ground of the historic area. About $3 million in construction resulted in sewer service being available for area businesses and residents, and new sidewalks and street lighting fixtures which updated the area's appearance.
College Park Receives USDA Urban Farm Grant
The city of College Park announced last week that the United States Department of Agriculture awarded College Park a grant designed to improve healthy food access for local residents. The grant, totaling $222,663, was initially applied for by the College Park Economic Development Department and awarded to the city's Metro Atlanta Urban Farm.
GA Tax Exemption Can Improve Project Economics
Georgia has a number of tax exemptions that could potentially apply to solar and other electric power generation projects. One that can really impact project economics is Georgia's tangible personal property tax exemption for manufacturers.
Jonesboro DDA Approves $20M Bond
The Jonesboro Downtown Development Authority was officially established Thursday evening and as its first act of business, approved the issuance of a $20 million bond for a group to purchase and renovate an apartment complex.
Valdosta Expands Use of Solar Energy
Valdosta will be adding to its number of active solar panels after the city council approved a proposal at its Oct. 6 meeting to build a solar array, or a group of panels, at both the old and new Withlacoochee Wastewater Treatment Plants.
Woodstock OKs Tax-Exempt Bonds for Apartment Project
A $4.5M renovation of the Columbia Creek Apartments has gotten an assist from the Woodstock City Council. It approved having the Canton Housing Authority issue tax-exempt revenue bonds to finance the project.
Columbus, GA Approves One Midtown TAD, Postpones Decision on the Other
Columbus Council approved one of two Tax Allocation Districts proposed for midtown Columbus and delayed a decision on the other. This will be the fifth TAD the council has approved with the city's first TAD approval in December 2015.
