MN Angel Tax Credit Program Loses Its Wings in Legislature
Minnesota's angel-investor tax program didn't make it into either the state house or senate tax bills, putting the incentive in jeopardy of sunsetting at the end of 2017. However, Gov. Mark Dayton included it in his most recent legislative package so it is possible the credits could resurface.
Kandiyohi County Makes Progress Toward Broadband Bond Sale
The County Board of Commissioners approved a resolution for property tax abatements totaling $5 million over 20 years for rural broadband. The move will have no impact on actual property taxes paid but is a requirement for the county to use tax abatement bonds as a financing mechanism.
Small Manufacturers are Essential to MN's Economy
When most Minnesotans think about manufacturing, they likely visualize big companies like 3M or Polaris. These are great companies, to be sure, but they represent only a tiny fraction of Minnesota's manufacturers. The vast majority are small and medium size businesses.
$100K DEED Grant Supports Demolition of Building in Pipestone
The city of Pipestone received a redevelopment grant for $100,000 from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) to demolish two blighted Main Street buildings in preparation for a new restaurant/bar development.
Lake Country Power Provides RLF to Support Food Co-op in MN
Natural Harvest Food Co-op recently received a $100,000 revolving loan fund from Lake Country Power to support its expansion into a new 9,000 square-foot building. The revolving loan fund that LCP administers came about from previous economic development grants received through the USDA.
Good Food Access Grants are Available in MN
The Minnesota Department of Agriculture is requesting proposals for grants to increase access to affordable, nutritious and culturally appropriate foods in underserved and low-moderate income communities. Roughly $150,000 is available for Equipment and Physical Improvement Grants.
