Construction of High-Speed Internet Network in Eastern Kentucky
A project to build a high-speed internet service network throughout Kentucky is on track. According to Kentucky.com, the legislature authorized $30M in bonds, the Appalachian Regional Commission contributed $15M, and Macquarie Capital will pay for the cost of building the system.
Accredited Kentucky Main Street Program
The Paducah Main Street Program is designed to encourage downtown revitalization and economic development within the context of historic preservation. According to SurfKY News, rebuilding economic health requires broad support from both the public and private sectors.
Promise Zone Helps Eastern Kentucky
Eight counties in eastern Kentucky are now designated in a Promise Zone, which will help the region access federally funded grants. According to WKYT, more than 40 partners have joined the Promise Zone Initiative to offer advice to new businesses in the area.
POWER Initiative Grant Money Available in Coal Communities
According to SurfKY News, the Partnership for Opportunity and Workforce and Economic Revitalization initiative was announced. It will provide $38M in grants to assist communities negatively impacted by the downturn of coal and energy production.
Best Practices from Participating States: Partnering with CDFIs
In this report by the U.S. Department of Treasury, CDFIs involvement in the SSBCI program is discussed. Best practices include those in California, Georgia, Kentucky, Minnesota, Montana, and Washington.
