Downtown Atlanta Building Gets Funding for Energy Efficient Upgrades
The Invest Atlanta board has approved $1.26M in Westside Tax Allocation District (TAD) for energy-efficient upgrades at The Walton Building, which is being redeveloped into a 110-room hotel. The TAD funds will pay for part of a $3.1M energy-efficiency project that includes window replacement and insulation, lighting with occupancy sensors and laundry water recycling.

Venture Capital Investments In Georgia Surge
Venture capital investing in the Peach State is on the rise. VC dollars plowed into local companies soared nearly 150 percent in the second quarter compared with the prior year. Georgia companies drew $133.3M in the second quarter, compared with $54.7M a year earlier, according to the MoneyTree report.

GA's Cook County Airport, An Economic Gateway
Cook County can thank USDA Rural Development for helping them to obtain funding for essential upgrades at the Cook County Airport. USDA implemented two programs for the project: a $55,950 Rural Business Enterprise Grant which will be used to purchase equipment and a $1.1M Rural Development Community Facility Loan for construction of twenty-two aircraft hangars.

Medient Studios Masterplan Approved In Effingham County
Medient Studios, Inc. has announced that the Property Committee of the Effingham County Industrial Development Authority has formally approved the Master Plan for major movie studio on the company's 1,550-acre property.  The Studioplex is said to be "the largest of its kind in the United States."

Atlanta Lands Opportunity Zone On South Side
The Georgia Department of Community Affairs has designated the area between Atlanta's Cleveland Avenue and Metropolitan Parkway to be eligible for jobs tax credits through the state's Opportunity Zones program. Businesses inside opportunity zones receive an income tax credit of $3,500 for each new job they create, as long as they create at least two net jobs.
