USDA Announces Framework for Shoring Up the Food Supply Chain
The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced details of a framework to transform the food system to benefit consumers, producers and rural communities by providing more options, increasing access, and creating new, more, and better markets for small and mid-size producers. The package includes new aid to support food supply chain infrastructure outside meat processing, regional food business centers, a new organic transition initiative, and urban agriculture.

Completion of $13M Green Infrastructure Project in Brooklyn and Queens, NY
Governor Kathy Hochul today announced the completion of a $13 million project to install green infrastructure improvements at multiple locations near Jamaica Bay. The Governor's Office of Storm Recovery project included rain gardens, rain barrels, and a shade structure to mitigate flooding, enhance street safety, and reduce pollution across South Brooklyn and South Queens communities.

Encinitas, CA Gets $20M Loan for Leucadia Streetscape Project
The city of Encinitas secured a $20 million loan from the California Infrastructure and Economic Development Bank to preserve and revitalize a section of the North Coast Highway 101 Corridor. The bank's loan will cover the construction of roundabouts, wider sidewalks, buffered bike lanes, increased parking options, additional lighting and new stormwater infrastructure.

King County, WA to Seek Federal Infrastructure Investments in Salmon
King County is competing for federal funding from a section of the federal Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill. It provides $1 billion for projects that address culverts that block salmon migration. King County said in a statement that it could "potentially cut the amount of time it would take to construct the identified priority projects in half, from 20 years to 10."

New Partnership Puts More Housing Money Into Wood County, OH
The City of Bowling Green has entered into a partnership with Wood County regarding 2022 Community Housing Impact and Preservation funds from the Ohio Department of Development. Council took action, giving three readings to and passing a resolution on this, at last week's meeting.

Millions Slated for Cleaning Connecticut's Contaminated Sites
The federal government said that it will invest nearly $7 million to clean up and redevelop contaminated properties across the state. The EPA said the Naugatuck Valley Council of Governments will get nearly $4 million to help clean up these sites. New London, New Haven, Stratford, Vernon, Waterbury and West Haven will also get money to help clean up everything from a school to an old button factory.

SB Friedman Front Porch NMTC Financing & Closing Support in Atlanta, GA
SB Friedman facilitated the closing of a $30.5 million New Markets Tax Credit financing supporting HDDC Front Porch, a mixed-use, mixed-income transit-oriented development in Atlanta's historic Sweet Auburn neighborhood. The project developer, Historic District Development Corporation, is a nonprofit that was cofounded by Coretta Scott King in 1980 to rehabilitate and revitalize the historic Atlanta neighborhoods around Martin Luther King's childhood home and church.
