The Japanese maker of Asian sauces and spices, United Foods International, chose Harford County, Maryland, for its plant, which is now officially opened, to serve East Coast customers better than it can from its California plant. The company was drawn to Maryland in part by a memorandum of cooperation Gov. Larry Hogan signed last summer between Maryland and Japan.

MD Commerce Designates Five Enterprise Zones
The Maryland Department of Commerce has approved the designation, redesignation, and expansion of five enterprise zones in the state. Talbot County and the Town of Easton, Anne Arundel County, and Montgomery County's Burtonsville and Briggs Chaney areas have been designated as new enterprise zones. The enterprise zone program, established in 1982, provides real property and state income tax credits to businesses that create jobs and make capital investments.
Howard County Courthouse Using P3 for Design and Construction
Howard County, Maryland is implementing a public-private partnership for the design, construction, and operation of a new courthouse. A bidding process would be used to secure a private consortium to execute a single P3 Contract with County covering the required services.
