MD Awards LIHTCs to 20 Developments
Twenty developments have been selected to receive federal low-income housing tax credits (LIHTCs) and state Rental Housing Funds from the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD). The awards will help construct or rehabilitate approximately 1,500 rental units, including 224 units that will be set aside for individuals with disabilities.
MD Gov. Hogan Optimistic Manufacturing Tax Credits Bill Will Pass
SB 317, or the More Jobs for Marylanders Act of 2017, passed in the Senate with amendments on March 23, and only Sen. Roger Manno opposed the bill. The bill is aimed at expanding Maryland's manufacturing industry by using accelerated depreciation and tax incentives.
21 Maryland Companies Receive ExportMD Grants
The Maryland Department of Commerce has awarded 21 small and mid-sized Maryland companies ExportMD grants to help promote their products and services in the global marketplace. The ExportMD grant program assists businesses finance the costs of marketing internationally, including trade show fees, brochures and travel expenses.
MD Gov. Hogan Proposing Tax Incentives for Small Business Sick Leave
Maryland Governor Larry Hogan has declared that the paid sick leave bills making their way through the legislature "are dead on arrival" if they reach his desk. He is instead proposing tax incentives for businesses with fewer than 50 people who offer paid sick leave.
MD Takes Next Step Toward Offshore Wind
The Maryland Public Service Commission hearing proposals from two developers to build wind farms in the Atlantic Ocean off Maryland. The two developers are competing for up to $1.9 billion in subsidies over 20 years, paid for by the state's electricity ratepayers, a crucial financing mechanism for developers to recoup the cost of building the massive wind farms.
MD Lawmaker Proposes Tax Incentives for New Businesses
Proposed by Sen. George Edwards, R-Washington, a bill would establish the County Economic Development Tax Incentives Program. Washington County is one of 10 jurisdictions that could benefit from the bill which would offer tax incentives to new or expanding businesses in distressed counties.
MD Looks to Boost Business Incentives
The Hogan administration is asking the General Assembly for more power to attract companies to Maryland — and to keep those that are here from leaving. The plan accomplish this is to use state spending on business incentives through loans, grants and tax credits.
Trump's Help Sought to Revive FBI P3 Swap
Democrats in Maryland's congressional delegation want President Trump to take personal charge over a stalled $2 billion public-private partnership proposal to swap the FBI headquarters site in downtown Washington for a new facility outside the capital.
