Inflation Reduction Act: Initial Takeaways for Green Technology, Taxes, and Healthcare

Federal Program Helps Alaska Villages Get $100M for Broadband Access
Alaska will receive at least $100 million through a new federal program to expand high-speed internet to underserved rural areas and promote workforce development. U.S. Sen. Dan Sullivan, an Alaska Republican, coordinated a summit with state, federal, and tribal officials in Anchorage, in an effort to ensure parties were on the same page moving forward.
Governor Mills Praises U.S. Treasury Approval of $62M to Support Maine Small Businesses
"Grow Maine" initiative through the Finance Authority of Maine will offer Maine entrepreneurs greater financing options to sustain or expand their business. Funding will be available through FAME and its intermediary partners via loan guarantees, direct loans, and equity capital. Loans up to $5 million will be available (not to exceed $20 million per project) and interest rates will be set by the participating lending institution.
New Hampshire Welcomes $6.1M to Update Newport Wastewater Facility
U.S. Senators Jeanne Shaheen and Maggie Hassan and Representatives Annie Kuster and Chris Pappas applauded $6,164,000 heading to Newport to upgrade its wastewater treatment facility that serves nearly 2,000 people. This project is essential to stem pollution that could pose health risks to the town and communities downstream along the Sugar River.

Coastal Bend Opportunity Zone Fund is holding an opportunity zone conference and bus tour on August 6 and 7. This event is dedicated to regional Opportunity Zone Stakeholders and is focused on how investors and our community can benefit from Opportunity Zones.

EPA Grants Tucson, AZ $1M Through Brownfields Cleanup Revolving Loan Fund
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has granted the City of Tucson $1 million through a Brownfields Cleanup Revolving Loan Fund. This will allow the city to provide six loans and two subgrants, which would revolve back into a fund supporting future Brownfields cleanups.
Sens. Booker, Schumer, Wyden Introduce Cannabis Administration and Opportunity Act
The comprehensive legislation would end federal cannabis prohibition by removing cannabis from the Controlled Substances Act. It empowers states to create their own cannabis laws, ensures federal regulation protects public health and safety, and prioritizes restorative and economic justice.

The Dallas City Council on Wednesday put a measure on the Nov. 8 ballot that would allow for the planning, financing, and construction of a replacement of its convention center, partly financed by an increase in the hotel occupancy tax.
States Turn Next to RFPs for Electric Vehicle Charging Network
States could begin releasing RFPs as early as the first quarter of 2023 to build out a national public electric vehicle charging network that's a top priority for the Biden administration. All 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico met the Aug. 1 deadline to submit an EV charging station deployment plan. That marks the first step to unlocking the $5 billion National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure formula program.
