Humboldt, IA Considers Broadening USDA RLF
The Humboldt, IA City Council is considering merging two urban renewal areas so that its USDA-sponsored RLF can be used in more ways. The RLF is currently restricted to one renewal area because the city used TIF funds from that district as the match for the USDA funds.
NJ Considers $50M Bond Issuance to Solve Stormwater Issues
A series of bills to address the New Jersey stormwater situation is up for discussion in the Assembly Environment Committee, including a bill (A-2890), that would ask voter approval for a $50 million bond issue to help local governments manage projects to reduce pollution.
Akron, OH Fund Announces First Community Loan Fund Project
The Development Fund of the Western Reserve has announced the financing of the historic United Building Hotel renovation project. DFWR, a private non-profit affiliated with the Development Financing Authority of Summit County, assisted in financing the project by providing a $1.28M loan.

Rural OR Communities Awarded Funds to Enhance Broadband Access
The 2016 Broadband Progress Report adopted by the Federal Communications Commission shows that 39% or rural Americans lack access to broadband speed benchmarks, versus only 4% in urban areas. To address that gap, Governor Kate Brown authorized Business Oregon to use $500,000 from the Strategic Reserve Fund to stand up a grant pilot program to advance rural broadband development.
USDA Seeks Applicants for Renewable Energy/Energy Efficiency Projects
Assistant to the Secretary for Rural Development Anne Hazlett has invited applications for loan guarantees and grants for Renewable Energy Systems and Energy Efficiency Improvement Projects, which is a part of USDA's Rural Energy for America Program (REAP).
