WHEDA Announces Entrepreneurship Grants The Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority, through its Greater Wisconsin Opportunities Fund, Inc., has awarded $380,000 in grants to provide entrepreneurship training in the city of Milwaukee. $37M Secured to Improve WI Railroads Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker announced $37 million in grants and loans for six freight-rail improvements as part of the state's Freight Railroad Assistance Program. Applications Received for How to Spend Green Bay Sales Tax Refund More than two dozen projects are officially in the running to receive part of Green Bay's excess stadium tax money. Earlier this year, the city council voted to spend $1 million of the excess money on economic development. Senator Baldwin Introduces Bill to Support Startups This piece of legislation aims to increase small businesses' access to venture capital by expanding the Small Business Administration's authorization to provide up to $4 billion in leverage to small business investment companies. Feingold, Johnson Back Munis Speaking to more than 1,000 county officials at the Wisconsin Counties Association's annual conference, Democrat Russ Feingold and Republican U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson backed the tax-exempt status of municipal bonds. WEDC Awards Drop by $48.3M in Fiscal Year 2016 WEDC handed out about $48.3 million less in awards last fiscal year; $16.2 million can be attributed to fewer municipalities sought industrial revenue bonds. Transform Milwaukee Strategic Plan Wins National Award The Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA) and GRAEF are proud to announce the Transform Milwaukee Strategic Action Plan has been awarded an outstanding achievement in planning award from the American Planning Association. Walker's Point Businesses Back Taxing District for Improvement Projects Businesses in Milwaukee's Walker's Point neighborhood are rallying around a new organization that would tax properties to pay for services such as streetscaping work, graffiti removal, branding efforts and street sweeping. $40.9M WHEFA Bond Financing Helps The Monroe Clinic Bond financing facilitated by WHEFA was used to help The Monroe Clinic, Inc. refinance bonds previously issued by Redevelopment Authority of the City of Monroe in 2009.
