Gov. Quinn Announces $45M Relief Package for Central IL
Gov. Pat Quinn announced a $45M state relief package Wednesday to help local governments recover from tornadoes that ravaged central and southern Illinois last November. The multi-agency package came after FEMA denied an appeal from the state for federal disaster assistance.
Chicago's Credit Rating Takes Major Hit over Unfunded Pensions
Moody's Investor Service rated the city's upcoming $388M bond issuance at Baa1 with negative outlook, down from A3, a level set last year after an unusual triple downgrade. The new rating is still investment grade, but on a lower tier.
Morton Grove Leaders: TIFs Aiding Development
Morton Grove's three TIF districts are a key tool for spurring economic development, say leaders. One is doing well, the second has pretty much done its job and will expire in 2017, and the third is new and has relatively little to report.
Chicago Looking at Investors to Pay for Energy Efficient Street Lights
Chicago Infrastructure Trust Executive Director Stephen Beitler walked the Emanuel-appointed board through the possibility of soliciting private investment to replace thousands of aging city street lights. Newer, more energy efficient lights could lower the city's electricity bills by 50% to 80% and investors could be paid back through the savings the city realizes.
