MEDC OKs Incentives for $99M Projects near Detroit Riverfront The plan that will restore vacant land near the eastern edge of downtown will be supported by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation through brownfields tax credits and performance-based equity, according to the Detroit News. Improving TIF Transparency and Accountability This proposal from David S. Bieri Ph.D and Carla Maria Kayanan (University of Michigan) seeks to contribute to the current policy discussion on TIF reform by developing the blueprint for a comprehensive, state-level database on the scale, scope and structure of TIF activities in Michigan. States Try to Make it Easier to Raise Money with Crowdfunding To date, thirteen states plus D.C. have passed laws or regulations allowing startups to use crowdfunding to raise money from investors with less red tape than companies with shareholders, according to GOVERNING. Detroit to Refinance $5.2B in Water Bonds According GOVERNING, Detroit City Council approved a plan that will free up cash for Detroit's restructuring, buying back outstanding bonds and refinancing up to $5.2B in debt. Lawmakers in Michigan Introduce Bipartisan Energy Freedom Bill According to Great Lakes Echo, a bipartisan group of Michigan lawmakers has introduced a bill package meant to tackles issues like net metering, microgrids, fair-value pricing and community renewable-energy gardens.
