$300M in Bond Financing for Projects in Low-Income, Distressed Communities
U.S. Department of the Treasury's Community Development Financial Institutions Fund announced that Treasury has agreed to issue three guarantees totaling $300 million under the Community Development Financial Institution Bond Guarantee Program. The guarantees will be issued on behalf of three Eligible CDFIs under the fiscal year 2023 round of the program. Nearly $2.5 billion has been guaranteed since the inception of the CDFI Bond Guarantee Program, which provides long-term, low-cost, fixed-rate capital for projects in low-income and distressed urban, rural, and Native communities.

First Half of 2023: Ohio Industrial Project Surge 
Columbus-Franklin County Finance Authority stated that despite stubborn inflation and labor shortages, development continues at a steady pace throughout central Ohio. Deals they closed will help finance a variety of infrastructure projects, and they are proud to say all new housing units they supported qualify as affordable – very much in need around Columbus. Most significant, however, was contributing to the capital stack for more than 1.6 million of industrial space.

Opportunity Zone Reform Legislation Introduced in U.S. House of Representatives
U.S. Representatives Mike Kelly (R-PA), Dan Kildee (D-MI), Carol Miller (R-WV), and Terri Sewell (D-AL) introduced the Opportunity Zones Transparency, Extension, and Improvement Act, legislation that would require mandatory data reporting of Opportunity Zone investments to increase transparency and streamline the reporting process. The bill would also extend the investment and deferral window to the end of 2028.

NJEDA Angel Tax Credit Approvals Drive Over $63M in Private Sector Investment Into New Jersey Companies
The New Jersey Economic Development Authority (NJEDA) announced that 28 emerging New Jersey technology businesses benefitted from $63.2 million in private investment as supported in 2023 by the New Jersey Angel Investor Tax Credit Program. The NJEDA approved more than $8.2 million in tax credits and investments to support emerging New Jersey-based companies in the life science, technology, and clean technology sectors.
