$251M in Revenue Bonds for Educational Equipment Issued in VA
The Virginia College Building Authority is issuing Educational Facilities Revenue Bonds in the amount of $251 million the week of June 5, 2017. The bonds consist of two series. Series 2017A is a $76 million issue to be used to acquire equipment for public higher education institutions.
Martinsville, VA, to Spend $3.8M Less Than Expected on Sewer Repairs
Repairing damages to a major sewer line running along the Smith River will cost the city almost $3.8 million less than officials and consultants expected.
Localities Giving Data-Centers Incentives in VA
To attract data centers, which provide a millions of dollars in local tax revenues, some localities are offering incentives in Virginia.
VA Historic Tax Credit May be Modified to Include Schools
The School Infrastructure Modernization Act, introduced May 17, seeks to amend "the federal historic rehabilitation tax credit to apply to school buildings that continue to operate as schools," according to a news release from Senator Kaine's office.
Gov. McAuliffe Promotes Clean Energy Jobs in VA's Coalfields
Gov. McAuliffe is promoting clean energy jobs by touring southwestern Virginia. Economic development experts say many job skills would translate from coal production to renewable energy, but there are challenges, including people leaving the area and an aging population.
VA Adopts Food Crops Donation Tax Credit
The Food Crops Donation Tax Credit was approved by the General Assembly in Virgina last year. It allows Virginia farmers who donate edible food crops to a nonprofit food bank to receive up to a 30 percent tax credit for their donation.
Senators Introduce Bill to Invest in Aging Central VA Schools
Senators Tim Kaine and Mark Warner have introduced the School Infrastructure Modernization Act to stimulate public and private investment in renovating active historic school buildings.
