TxDOT Plans $2.5B of Urban Projects Over 4 Years
The Texas Department of Transportation plans to spend $2.5 billion on 19 major urban projects over the next four years as part of its "Clear Lanes" program.
Exxon Mobil Gathers Tax Incentives as TX Battles with LA for Plant Site
The school board in a south Texas community competing with two Louisiana sites has approved an estimated $1.2 billion in tax breaks to entice Exxon Mobil Corp. and its Saudi partner to build a $9.3 billion petrochemical plant within its district along the Texas Gulf Coast.
City of Shenandoah to Borrow $3M for Water Plant
Shenandoah City Council members discussed the impending purchase of a new $3M water plant for the city during a public workshop meeting. The water plant will work with the recently purchased water well to filter and treat the water before distributing it into the water system.
TX Budget Wall Could Stop Bullet Train Plan
The state Senate Finance Committee late last week added a provision to its proposed two-year state budget that would prohibit the Texas Department of Transportation from spending funds to help plan, build, or operate the privately financed $12 billion Texas bullet train between Dallas and Houston.
TX Bill Would Limit Highway Funds to Strengthen General Fund
Texas lawmakers struggling to develop a budget with less revenue than in the 2015 session have the option to pull back $2.3 billion in transportation funding approved two years ago.
Abilene's Extra Funds Could Go Towards New Fire Stations
The Abilene City Council could vote to use about $1.8 million in extra funds from 2016 to help build the three fire stations included in the 2015 bond program, which were over budget.
Mayor Vetoes Resolution to Issue Emergency Funds for Public Improvement Projects
Mayor Oscar Leeser has vetoed a resolution that would discuss the issuance of certificates of obligation for the cost of some public improvement projects, saying that those funds were not budgeted. The certificates would not exceed $44 million and would go toward the cost of improving streets, police parking garages, parks, recreational and library facilities and public art.
Federal Tax Credits May Save Endangered Longview Building
Preservationists in Lonview, TX recently learned that the federal Nine Percent Housing Tax Credit subsidies might be the last hope of saving the endangered Petroleum Building in downtown Longview.
San Felipe Council Approves $725K Bond
The Town of San Filipe approved a $725K bond which will be used for an assortment of public improvements.
USDA Announces Funding to Improve Rural Electric Infrastructure
The Rural Development Deputy Under Secretary has announced that the USDA is making loans to electric cooperatives that will help continue to deliver safe, reliable and affordable electricity to rural residents, business and institutions in nine states.
