Proposals to Link Tax Breaks to Employment Put Jobs 'At Risk,' Boeing Says
Lawmakers in Olympia have introduced bills to tie aerospace tax credits to recipient employment levels in the state. Boeing spokesman said the company had not had an opportunity to review the legislation, but said Boeing remains opposed to any effort to alter Washington's aerospace tax incentives.
Port Spokane?
Spokane could get a countywide Port District before 2020 if legislation passed through the state House succeeds in the Senate. Port districts can levy taxes to help with economic development, and often operate harbors, airports and/or industrial parks.
SBA-Backed Lending Starting Strong in the Inland Northwest this Year
SBA-backed lending has started strong in 2017, and demand for the guaranteed loans looks to remain steady, some top SBA lenders here say. Ted Schinzel, SBA's Spokane branch manager, says, although 2017 has started strong, SBA lending can dip in an improving economy as other sources of capital emerge.
WA Department of Commerce Grants $100K for Marine Jobs
Washington State Department of Commerce has awarded a $100,000 WorkStart grant to help the Northwest School of Wooden Boatbuilding (NWSWB) launch a new marine systems training program in Port Townsend.

The report blames the life science industry downturn on an erosion of state programs meant to support the life sciences industry, including the end of the state's research and development tax credit and the elimination of multiple state funding programs.
