Bill Would Provide $1B of PABs for Coal Community Zones
Sen. Michael Bennet (D-CO) introduced the Coal Community Empowerment Act (S. 1743) authorizing up to $1 billion in PAB financing in 90 Coal Community Zones around the country. Localities in those zones would use bond proceeds to provide low-interest loans to businesses.

Texarkana, AR Backing Potential Cooper Project with Bonds
The city of Texarkana has authorized the issuance of industrial development bonds valued at up to $250 million to be used to support investment by Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. in its car and light truck tire plant in the Arkansas city.

Newport News City Council Gives Ivy Tower Second Approval
Newport News City Council signed off again on issuing $16 million in bonds for a project to rehabilitate Ivy Tower, after the project was delayed with the prospect of federal tax reform.

The Monongalia County Commission approved a resolution Aug. 9 authorizing the issuance of bonds for a second phase of development at the Morgantown Industrial Park.

$150M in State Bonds for Tahoe Reno Industrial Center Biofuels Plant
A high-tech plant that will eventually convert Lockwood's garbage into jet and diesel fuel won final approval to use $150 million in bonds to build Phase II of the project at the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center.

A recent Internal Revenue Service private letter ruling is being greeted by tax lawyers as confirmation that the tax-exempt status of bonds issued by public teaching hospitals isn't jeopardized under most agreements with medical schools, nursing schools and pharmacy schools.
