Jamie Karl Joins CDFA as Senior Director of Advocacy & Government Affairs!
CDFA proudly announces that Jamie Karl has joined our team as Senior Director of Advocacy & Government Affairs. Mr. Karl will be vital in advancing CDFA's national development finance policy agenda. In this role, Mr. Karl will manage legislative and grassroots advocacy, write policy papers, coordinate advocacy events like Capitol Hill Days and policy briefings, oversee CDFA's Advocacy Center, and more. He will help shape CDFA's future direction and support our network of economic development practitioners by remaining at the forefront of development finance. We are so excited to have Mr. Karl join CDFA!
DOE Announces $127M to Advance Carbon Capture, Removal, and Conversion Test Centers
The U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Office of Fossil Energy and Carbon Management announced up to $127.5 million in federal funding to support the development of carbon dioxide (CO2) capture, removal, and conversion test centers for cement manufacturing facilities and power plants. Projects selected under this funding opportunity will support testing facilities that will further advance technologies to capture and convert CO2 into products from utility and industrial sources or remove CO2 from the atmosphere.
CDFA Creates Strategic Plan for Louisville Metro Government
CDFA was honored to launch the Louisville Metro Government (LMG) Strategic Development Finance Framework we authored for LMG in early August. The plan was presented to community stakeholders in Louisville and is part of LMG's launch of their new economic development organization called LEDA. Our framework will guide their efforts to build development finance capacity and structure. Congratulations to our CDFA authors Toby Rittner, Fawn Zimmerman, and Andres Caro. Indiana EDC Seeks $50M for New LEAP Pipeline Bond Financing
The Indiana Economic Development Corp. (EDC) plans to ask the state for $50 million to support bonds to finance a new pipeline that would send 25 million gallons of water to its LEAP Lebanon Innovation District and other Boone County developments, supporting the Eli Lilly and Co. manufacturing complex expansion, additional park tenants and new development in the city. If approved, the money would be transferred from the Deal Closing Fund to the Indiana Finance Authority to secure bond financing.

Lone Star PACE Facilitates $27M in Retroactive C-PACE Financing for Hotel in Dallas, TX
Lone Star PACE, a leading administrator of Texas' Property Assessed Clean Energy program, announced it facilitated $27 million in retroactive C-PACE financing for the award-winning HALL Arts Hotel in the Dallas Arts District. Financing proceeds will recapitalize previously installed sustainable upgrades that save energy and water, including improvements to the building's envelope, electrical, lighting, HVAC, and plumbing systems.
DOC Invests $2.1M to Support Agriculture and Ecotourism in Belen, NM
U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo announced the Department's Economic Development Administration (EDA) is awarding a $2.1 million grant to the Valencia Soil and Water Conservation District in Belen, New Mexico, to support economic resiliency efforts in agriculture and ecotourism following wildfires in 2023. This grant will support construction of an operations and economic development building to help bolster the local economy. This EDA investment will be matched with $634,150 in local funds and is expected to create 9 jobs and generate $400,000 in private investment.
Brownfield Grants Make Way for Economic Development in Columbus, OH
Ohio is spending hundreds of millions of dollars to turn sites that used to be considered hazardous into bustling new attractions. Since 2021, the state has distributed $450 million for 374 projects across nearly every county in Ohio. The latest addition, The Little Grand Market, is a new food hall in Columbus that's home to a dozen restaurants and bars.
