Announcing the Return of CDFA's Fundamentals of Economic Development Finance Course
CDFA is proud to kick off the new year with the return of the Fundamentals of Economic Development Finance Course on January 25-26, 2023! This course will help attendees understand the variety of development finance tools available including bonds, tax credits, tax increment financing (TIF), federal financing programs, RLFs, Opportunity Zones, and access to capital lending resources.

The Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa in North Dakota Receive $500K From IIJA
Funds from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) will be used to assist the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa in remediating and reusing brownfields sites throughout the reservation. The tribe will oversee and perform planning, assessment, and cleanup of brownfields sites at the San Haven medical complex and throughout the reservation.

Missoula, MT Applies EPA Brownfield Funds to Redevelopment Urban Properties
Funding from the EPA and revolving loans have helped the Missoula, MT, make progress in cleaning a number of contaminated properties for redevelopment — a process expected to achieve several large milestones next year. The city already has a number of successful brownfield projects to point to, largely related to nonprofit partnerships.

State to Release $24M to Help Restore Brownfield Sites in Connecticut
The State of Connecticut will release nearly $25 million in funds to investigate and clean up 41 parcels of land in 16 towns with the goal of returning them to productive use. Brownfields will be made green. Not just environmentally, but economically. The state is working with private developers to put blighted properties back on the tax rolls and to build more affordable housing.

Lycoming County, PA Announces Program to Cleanup Contaminated Sites
Loan and grant funds will now be available for the cleanup of contaminated sites through the Brownfield Revolving Loan Fund program. Funded by a grant from the US EPA, the program provides low-interest loans and grants for financing the cleanup of brownfield sites.

EPA Announces $14M in Brownfields Grants to Train Environmental Workers
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) selected 29 organizations to receive more than $14M in funding through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law for environmental job training programs across the country. The grants through EPA's Brownfields Jobs Training Program will recruit, train, and place workers for community revitalization and cleanup projects at brownfield sites in underserved areas.

North America's Largest Landfill Solar Project is Now Complete in Mount Olive, NJ
The largest landfill solar project in North America, a 25.6 megawatt (MW) solar farm in Mount Olive, New Jersey, is online – which means yet another dumpsite has been turned into a revenue-generating, clean energy asset. The Combe Fill North Landfill site is a brownfield site that operated from 1966 to 1978, and it now hosts 56,000 solar panels. It contains domestic and industrial waste and dry sewage sludge.

Bioenergy Project Helps Fuel Community Connections on Chicago, IL's South Side
Auburn Gresham is not what anyone would consider a typical high-tech hub. The community on Chicago's South Side has suffered from decades of disinvestment and racist redlining practices. Green Era Campus is situated on nine acres of a former brownfield that served as an impound lot for the city of Chicago until 2010, and was also blighted with illegally dumped trash.
