Ohio Announces $175M for Brownfield Remediation Projects
Ohio State officials announced that nearly $175 million in grant funding is available for communities to help clean up contaminated properties. The funding will be awarded as part of the Ohio Brownfield Remediation Program, which aims to help communities clean up industrial, commercial, and institutional brownfield sites that are abandoned, idled, or underutilized due to a known or potential release of hazardous substances or petroleum.
EPA Selects Final Cleanup Plan for California Sulphur Bank Mercury Mine Superfund Site
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced the final cleanup plan for the Sulphur Bank Mercury Mine Superfund site, covering the mine site and residential soils in Clearlake Oaks, California. EPA's cleanup plan will combine and cover mine waste piles, remove or cover contaminated residential soils, minimize impacts on nearby tribes, and reduce mercury entering Clear Lake sediments and fish.
Bipartisan Legislation Introduced to Reauthorize Brownfields Tax Deduction
Representatives Mikie Sherrill (NJ-11) and Mike Turner (OH-10) reintroduced the Brownfields Redevelopment Tax Incentive Reauthorization Act. This legislation would allow state and local governments, nonprofits, or developers to fully deduct the cost of environmental remediation of brownfields, and vacant industrial and commercial areas like gas stations that remain undeveloped because of concerns of environmental contamination.
U.S. EPA Celebrates Second Anniversary of Bipartisan Infrastructure Law
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) marks the second year of progress in implementing the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law with the release of the second annual report detailing the agency's investments to strengthen our infrastructure, make communities more resilient to climate change, and better protect human health and the environment. The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law provides EPA with more than $60 billion over five years for a wide range of environmental programs.
