Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde, Stantec Gain $800K to Revitalize Mill Site in New York
Stantec has helped secure $800K in federal funding for the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde to revitalize the former Blue Heron Mill into a multiuse public gathering space. Due to the firm's reputation in Brownfield revitalization, the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde brought Stantec on to help write up the Brownfield grant application to the U.S. EPA.

Coal Cleanup Costs Covered by Infrastructure Bill
State and federal officials made an announcement Monday about federal funding meant to help eliminate some of the scars that came from energy generation in the past. The infrastructure law has designated $11.3 billion for abandoned mine land reclamation projects. A large portion of that will go to Pennsylvania.

A New Chapter: Repurposing for Further Development in West Virginia
The Sporn Power Plant in Letart, WV was one of three AEP power plants closed in 2015 and has been vacant since that time. Since acquiring the former power plant, Frontier Group of Companies have invested significant resources into repositioning the 280-acre brownfield site including preparing a plan to transform the brownfield into a modern industrial park.

From Brownfields to Solar Fields in Southwest Virginia
Southwest Virginia even has a program primed and ready to encourage shared solar development, the Brightfields Program. The Virginia General Assembly passed the Brightfields Act to support solar energy development on sites such as abandoned mine lands, landfills, former industrial sites, and decommissioned energy generation facilities in Southwest Virginia.

Mansfield, OH City Council OKs $500K Toward Demolition/Remediation
Mansfield City Council voted to spend up to $500K in a partnership with Richland County, toward the demolition and remediation of two former Westinghouse properties. The Land Bank acquired the two properties -- the six-story "A" building at 200 Fifth St. and a 13-acre concrete slab that adjoins it to the east. Local officials acted after the state's two-year budget approved in 2021 set aside $500 million for demolition and brownfield remediation.

Town of Haddam, CT Gets $1.8M Grant to Remediate Old Mill Brownfields
The Department of Economic and Community Development has awarded a $1.8 million grant to the town of Haddam for the cleanup of blighted properties in Haddam through the Brownfield Remediation Program. The governor's administration is awarding approximately $17.9 million in state grants to help with the costs of remediating 40 blighted parcels in 13 towns and cities across Connecticut.

Pawtucket, RI's Remediated Brownfields Improve River, Community Health
Pawtucket has 22 known brownfield sites along its riverfront. The state agency lists only three as not remediated. Today, instead of being blighted lots overgrown with invasive plants, the remediated Branch Street parcels are home to affordable housing. The aggressive remediation of Pawtucket brownfields has meant dividends for its urban rivers.
