EPA Awards $9.4M for Brownfield Cleanup in Indiana
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has awarded $9.4 million in grant funding to 10 recipients in Indiana to assess or clean up brownfield sites. The EPA says projects can range from cleaning up buildings with asbestos or lead contamination, to assessing and cleaning up abandoned properties that formerly managed hazardous chemicals.

Biden Administration Announces $7.3M to Tackle Polluted Brownfield Sites in Pennsylvania
Eight Pennsylvania communities will receive Brownfield Assessment, Cleanup or High Performing RLF support to help reinvigorate neighborhoods while addressing environmental justice concerns. These grants are supported by President Biden's Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which provides a total of $1.5 billion to advance environmental justice, spur economic revitalization, and create jobs by cleaning up contaminated, polluted, or hazardous brownfield properties.
EPA Announces $4M Brownfields Investment in New Hampshire
The U.S. EPA announced $4 million in federal funds earmarked for assessing and cleaning up abandoned industrial and commercial properties is headed for New Hampshire, to support cleaning up abandoned properties in underserved communities. New Hampshire is in line to receive five grants under the Brownfields Cleanup and Assessment Grant program.
Nearly $10M in EPA Funding Going to Environmentally Contaminated Sites in Montana
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently announced that five central Montana community development organizations will receive a combined total of $9.7 million in federal funding to redevelop environmentally contaminated sites across 20 northcentral Montana counties.
Virginia Receives a Big Boost in Federal Funds for Brownfields Work
Virginia has been awarded a record amount of federal dollars to lay the groundwork for the cleanup of contaminated or potentially contaminated sites known as brownfields in the cities of Emporia and Newport News and the towns of Appalachia and Blackstone. The U.S. EPA awarded the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality $2 million in brownfields grants, the most of its kind ever received by DEQ, with an additional $3.5 million going to regional and local governments and authorities.
Communities Across Maine Secure $24.2M to Address Contaminated Sites
Communities and organizations across Maine have been awarded more than $24.2 million in federal funds to help assess and clean up both contaminated and blighted sites for future development.
Michigan Gets $4M in Brownfield Grants for Flint, Jackson, Muskegon
Remediation projects to clean up polluted properties in Flint, Jackson, Muskegon and elsewhere around Michigan will benefit from $4 million in brownfield grants from the U.S. EPA. The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy (EGLE) will use $2 million to conduct 110 site assessments and perform other studies, planning and analyses for projects in Benton Harbor, Flint, Detroit and Escanaba.
