A team of researchers at Stanford has created a "Living Map" of innovative ways to finance water projects in the United States that they hope will help regions finance water infrastructure upgrades.

Spokane-based private utility Avista, and the Snohomish County Public Utility District (SnoPUD), each were awarded $3.5 million from the Washington Clean Energy Fund to further their innovative work on electricity "microgrid" projects.

Demand for C-PACE Growing in RI
C-PACE, a program designed to finance projects to make commercial buildings more energy efficient, is growing in Rhode Island, according to a May 5 report by Rhode Island Public Radio. 

Renewable-Energy Tax Break Bill Headed to Rick Scott in FL
The Florida Legislature has passed a bill that will give a renewable-energy tax break to commercial and industrial properties with solar installations. The measure (SB 90) was sent to Gov. Rick Scott after passing the Senate unanimously. If signed into law, businesses that install solar panels to their properties would not have to pay additional property taxes from the increased value of adding such devices.

HB 187 in LA Would Mandate Payment of ‘Outstanding' Solar Energy Tax Credits
The Louisiana State Committee on Ways and Means moved on May 1 to fix one of its "broken promises" by unanimously passing a bill to pay solar energy systems tax credits still owed before the legislature put a cap on the program last June.

Wind Installations Surge as Developers Race Tax Credit Phaseout
Energy Tax Credits are being phased out all throughout the country which is spurring developers to pursue them before they are gone for good. The loss of these tax credits will impact wind, solar, and renewable energy production as well as energy storage and transmission.

NC Gave Out Record $245M in Energy Tax Credits: Who Benefitted?
The $245 million in tax credits claimed last year represent state income taxes that corporations and individuals were exempted from paying that year, and nearly doubles the renewable tax credits claimed the year before, $136.3 million.

WIFIA to Provide $1B to Support $2B in Water Infrastructure Investment
The US EPA Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (WIFIA) program received 43 letters of interest from prospective borrowers for projects to update our nation's water infrastructure. WIFIA will provide $1 billion in credit to finance over $2 billion in water infrastructure investments.

Franklin, TN, Debate Using State RLF for Sewer Plant Expansion
Franklin city leaders decided to take some time before finalizing a decision on a massive loan needed for a sewer plant expansion. The city council voted 7-1 to defer a decision until May on taking out an $80 million loan from the state's revolving loan fund.

Tax Credits For Going Green, Grab Them Before It's Too Late
Congress let the federal tax credits for geothermal and wind power home energy systems expire at year-end 2016, but it extended the federal solar sweetener, a tax credit worth 30% off the sticker price of a solar power system for your home. Meanwhile a dozen states still offer solar, wind or geothermal tax breaks.

PA Announces $39M Investment in Water
Governor Tom Wolf  announced the investment of $39 million for 12 drinking water, wastewater, storm water, and non-point source projects across nine counties through the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST).
