Rural Jobs Act Introduced in House, Would Provide $1B in Additional NMTC Allocation
Rep. Carol Miller, R-West Virginia, recently introduced the Rural Jobs Act in the House of Representatives. The bill would provide $1 billion of new markets tax credit (NMTC) allocation over the next two years for rural areas. The House version of the legislation's text was not immediately available, but it is expected to be identical to a version introduced in the Senate in May. That legislation would provide $500 million per year in NMTC allocation for 2023 and 2024 for Rural Jobs Zones, which are NMTC-eligible census tracts in rural communities with fewer than 50,000 residents.

$50M for Water Infrastructure in Small, Financially Distressed Communities
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced the availability of nearly $50 million in regular funding through the Sewer Overflow and Stormwater Reuse Municipal Grant program to help communities address stormwater and sewer infrastructure needs. States may now apply for grant assistance to fund projects that will help municipalities strengthen their stormwater collection systems against increasingly intense rain events made worse by the climate crisis.

Monarch Private Capital Finances Affordable Family Housing in South Carolina
Monarch Private Capital, a nationally recognized impact investment firm that develops, finances, and manages a diversified portfolio of projects generating both federal and state tax credits, is pleased to announce the financial closing of low-income housing tax credit (LIHTC) equity for the $6 million rehabilitation of two affordable housing developments in South Carolina.

Washoe Tribe Receives $1.3M for Energy Infrastructure and Clean Energy Investments
U.S. Senators Catherine Cortez Masto (D-Nev.) and Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.) announced that the Washoe Tribe of Nevada & California will receive $1.3 million to modernize and strengthen their energy infrastructure and invest in clean energy. The funding comes from the U.S. Department of Energy's Grid Resilience State and Tribal Formula Grants program, which was created in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

USDA Invests $30M for School Nutrition in 264 Small and Rural Communities
As part of a cooperative agreement to develop and implement the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Healthy Meals Incentives Initiative, Action for Healthy Kids announced that it is awarding nearly $30 million in subgrants to 264 school districts across 44 states and the District of Columbia, reaching students in some of our nation's highest-need schools. These funds are being provided by USDA's Food and Nutrition Service.

Repowering Rural America with Clean Energy
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) opened two new programs to advance clean energy generation in rural areas using about $11 billion in funds allocated by the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act. Powering Affordable Clean Energy (PACE) and Empowering Rural America will be administered by USDA's Rural Utilities Service and will support energy reliability and the resilience of rural energy systems in the face of increased wildfires and extreme weather events due to climate change. 

U.S. Department of Energy Provides $450M for Residential Solar in Puerto Rico
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced up to $453.5 million from the Puerto Rico Energy Resilience Fund (PR-ERF) aimed at increasing residential rooftop solar PV and battery storage installations across the region, with a focus to reach and support Puerto Rico's most vulnerable residents. This round of funding will provide consumer protection and education initiatives to support residents' long-term use of solar systems.

Farmers Able to Cut Energy Costs with USDA, IRA Solar Incentives
Federal grant and tax credit dollars have significantly reduced the costs for farmers to install solar projects and power their businesses. The U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Rural Energy for America Program can cut installation costs up to 50 percent and the Inflation Reduction Act's Investment Tax Credit gives businesses up to a 30 percent credit for eligible projects.

Rep. Kilmer Introduces Legislation to Improve USDA Programs for Tribal Communities
U.S. Representatives Derek Kilmer (WA-06) and Nick Langworthy (NY-23) announced the introduction of the REACH Our Tribes Act, legislation to make government help more effective for Tribal communities by ensuring they have a say in budget decisions, tracking how well the help is working, and making it easier to find and use available resources.

USDA Opens Application for Community Wildfire Defense Grants
The United States Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Forest Service announced that it is accepting applications for the Community Wildfire Defense Grant program, now in its second year. The program is designed to assist at-risk communities, including Tribal communities, non-profit organizations, state forestry agencies, and Alaska Native Corporations with planning for and mitigating wildfire risks. In 2022, $197 million was awarded to 99 projects in 22 states and 7 Tribes.

USDA Invests $7.1M for Water Infrastructure in Rural Wisconsin
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced $7.1 million in additional funding for the construction of a new wastewater treatment facility for the City of Osseo. USDA Rural Development approved a loan of $6.3 million and a grant of $850,000 through the USDA's Water and Waste Disposal Loans and Grants program. This investment will be used to provide additional financing due to increased project bid costs.

USDA Provides $1M Grants to Two Rural Wisconsin Healthcare Centers
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced that two rural Wisconsin healthcare centers will receive $1 million in grants to fund renovations and equipment upgrades to provide better access to care for thousands of Wisconsinites. The Emergency Rural Health Care Grants, part of the American Rescue Plan Act, will be awarded to Upland Hill Health's Mineral Point clinic and the Reedsburg Area Medical Center.

USDA Provides $1M Grant to Two New York Rural Healthcare Centers
Olean General Hospital and Bradford Regional Medical Center have received a $1 million grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to help make up for the loss of revenue during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021. The Rural Emergency Health Care grants were part of $3 million in grants to Southern Tier counties.

USDA Providing $8M for Rural Healthcare Centers in Nebraska
Nebraska's U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development State Director announced that USDA is expanding access to healthcare by awarding over $8 million in Emergency Rural Health Care Grants to improve healthcare facilities in rural towns across the state. These grants will help 17 rural healthcare organizations expand critical services. This announcement is part of a national initiative assisting over 172 healthcare providers nationwide.
