U.S. Department of Energy Sets Aside Up to $112M for Wave Energy Development
The U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Water Power Technologies Office has set out plans to provide up to $112.5 million in funding to advance the commercial readiness of wave energy technologies through open water testing and system validation. The proposed opportunity will reduce deployment risks, increase the potential for commercial adoption through longer-duration demonstrations (expected to last nearly two years), and offer additional benefits to help quickly advance wave energy converters (WECs).

USDA Distributes $2.2B to Farmers, Ranchers Who Experienced Discrimination
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced that farmers, ranchers, and other landowners who have experienced discrimination received payments through the Inflation Reduction Act's Discrimination Financial Assistance Program. The Biden-Harris administration said the funds were distributed to counteract prejudicial treatment that has prevented people from federal farm loan programs. The program will assist 43,000 individuals in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and American Samoa.

U.S. DOC Announces New $25M Good Jobs Challenge Notice of Funding Opportunity
The U.S. Department of Commerce's (DOC) Economic Development Administration (EDA) launched a new phase of funding for the Good Jobs Challenge. This funding opportunity builds on the success of the first round of the Good Jobs Challenge awards, funded by the American Rescue Plan, and this round will invest $25 million into high-quality, locally-led workforce training programs that lead to good jobs. The funding will support sectoral partnerships that bring together diverse stakeholders to develop high-quality training programs that lead directly to a good job.
$34.4M in Community Change Grants in Alabama and Tennessee
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced $34.4 million in funding for two selected applications to help disadvantaged communities in Alabama and Tennessee tackle environmental and climate justice challenges through projects that reduce pollution, increase community climate resilience, and build community capacity. Made possible by the Inflation Reduction Act, the Community Change Grants Program is the single largest investment in environmental and climate justice in history.
$2M Awarded to Improve Infrastructure for Disaster Preparedness in Northeast Mississippi
The Three Rivers Solid Waste Management Authority in Pontotoc has been awarded $2 million for infrastructure improvements to support disaster resiliency in northeast Mississippi. The Economic Development Administration (EDA) is divvying the funds, which will be matched by $5.4 million from local fundraising efforts, to support upgrades to the solid waste transfer stations, improving disaster preparedness. This project is funded under the Disaster Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2023, which provided EDA with $483 million in additional funds for disaster relief and recovery.

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced the availability of up to $63 million to enable state and local governments to expand battery recycling and modernize American manufacturing by making cutting-edge technologies like advanced sensors and modeling more accessible to small- and medium-sized manufacturers (SMMs). Administered by DOE's Office of Manufacturing and Energy Supply Chains (MESC), this funding opportunity advances next-generation tools and resources to achieve the Biden-Harris Administration's ambitious goal of a net-zero economy by 2050.
U.S. DOE Announces $41M for Technologies to Expand Use of Renewable Power
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced $41 million for 14 projects to develop technologies, Renewables-to-Liquids (RtL), for harnessing renewable energy sources like wind and solar to produce liquids for sustainable fuels or chemicals that can be transported and stored as easily as carbon-intensive liquids like gasoline or oil. By enabling the transportation of sustainable fuels, the selected projects can reduce interconnection barriers while helping cut emissions from hard-to-decarbonize industrial sectors.
Maryland Receives $4.7M to Strengthen Offshore Wind Workforce
Maryland received $4.7 million in federal funding to provide training and job placement to grow its offshore wind workforce. The funding, made possible through the U.S. Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration Good Jobs Challenge, will create a skilled worker pipeline into Maryland's wind energy industry with a focus on building a diverse and inclusive workforce. The new grant opportunity is a part of the Maryland Department of Labor's Maryland Works for Wind initiative, which received $23 million in federal dollars in 2022 to build the state's wind industry.
Biden-Harris Administration Announces $427M in Grants From IIJA to Modernize Airports
The U.S. Department of Transportation's (DOT) Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is awarding $427 million in funding for 245 airport-related infrastructure grants across 39 states to modernize and improve America's airports. The projects are funded under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Airport Infrastructure Grants (AIG) program, part of the $25 billion total included in the law for airport improvements such as terminal expansions and baggage system upgrades, runway safety enhancements, and air traffic infrastructure improvements.
Biden-Harris Administration Invests in Rural Communities to Lower Energy Costs
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) announced a partnership with farmers and small businesses to expand access to clean energy and lower energy bills through the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) and the Rural Energy for America Technical Assistance Grant Program. USDA is investing $163 million in loans, grants, and technical assistance that support 338 clean energy projects in 39 states and Guam. The funding will help rural small businesses and farmers lower energy bills by an average of $25,000 a year.
$90M Investment in Projects that Conserve Natural Resources, Address Climate Change
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is investing $90 million in 53 Conservation Innovation Grants projects, which support the development of new tools, approaches, practices, and technologies to further natural resource conservation on private lands. Projects will empower farmers to make innovative and holistic farm management decisions to improve nutrient management in the Chesapeake Bay watershed, deploy precision ag technology to measure forage availability on dairy farms, and provide the technical assistance, data collection, and evaluation of both economic and conservation impacts of using the technology.
$127M Allocated to Clean Up Orphaned Wells in Five States
The U.S. Department of the Interior announced the allocation of $126.7 million to tackle legacy pollution in Alaska, Arizona, Indiana, New York, and Ohio. The funding will plug nearly 600 orphaned wells in five states, address environmental hazards, create jobs, and advance environmental justice. The initiative supports the U.S. Methane Emissions Reduction Action Plan and contributes to broader environmental justice goals.
Bipartisan ADVANCE Act to Boost Nuclear Energy Now Law
The President signed into law the Accelerating Deployment of Versatile, Advanced Nuclear for Clean Energy (ADVANCE) Act, bipartisan legislation to provide a major boost to the future of nuclear energy in America. The goal of the ADVANCE Act is to strengthen U.S. energy and national security, lower greenhouse gas emissions and create thousands of new jobs, while ensuring the continued safety of this zero-emissions energy source.
