U.S. Treasury Announces $196M for Broadband Infrastructure in Washington
The U.S. Department of the Treasury announced the approval of $195.7 million for high-speed internet projects in Washington state under the Capital Projects Fund (CPF) in the American Rescue Plan, which the state estimates will connect about 33,000 homes and businesses to affordable, high-speed internet.
Montana and North Dakota Receive $120M from Treasury for Broadband
The U.S. Department of the Treasury announced the approval of $119.9 million in federal funds for broadband infrastructure projects in Montana and $68.3 million for multi-purpose community facility projects in North Dakota under the American Rescue Plan's Capital Projects Fund.
Alaska to Receive Additional $100M for Broadband
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is awarding $100.5 million to facilitate and improve access to high-speed internet for Alaskans in rural communities. These awards are possible thanks to the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA)—and specifically through USDA's ReConnect Program, which aims to ensure high-speed internet for all communities across the United States. To date, Alaska has received more than $3.9 billion in infrastructure investments thanks to the IIJA.
Federal Transit Administration Announces $150M for Bus Rapid Transit in Pittsburgh, PA
The U.S. Department of Transportation's Federal Transit Administration (FTA) announced a $149.9 million construction grant award to Pittsburgh Regional Transit for the new Downtown-Uptown-Oakland bus rapid transit (BRT) line. Funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the Downtown-Uptown-Oakland BRT project will provide fast, convenient transit for residents and commuters along a heavily congested corridor from Downtown Pittsburgh to Oakland.

Pennsylvania to Receive $400M from Infrastructure Law to Plug Abandoned Wells
Under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, Congress set aside $4.7 billion in 2021 to plug abandoned wells. That money started flowing to states last year. Pennsylvania has received $25 million and is on track to get another $375 million. Estimates for how many there are vary wildly, but the state thinks that 250,000 is a more likely total. So far, it has identified 27,449 orphaned wells—wells that have no owners—and has plugged another 3,346 of them, costing between $10,000 to $200,000 each.
West Virginia Receives $4.3B to Plug Orphaned Oil Wells
West Virginia is receiving $4.3 billion from the Department of Interior (DOI) for plugging and remediating orphaned oil and gas well sites located in the Monongahela National Forest and Ohio River Islands National Wildlife Refuge. This funding was made possible by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and will reduce methane emissions, clean up the environment and help reinvigorate communities across West Virginia impacted by orphaned oil and gas wells.
U.S. DOE Announces $80M in Clean Energy Grants for American Manufacturers
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced $80 million in grant funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law for small- and medium-sized manufacturing firms to accelerate the adoption of recommendations made by DOE to improve energy efficiency to lower costs and reduce industrial emissions. The grants support efforts to build a clean energy economy, revitalize American manufacturing, and create good-paying jobs in the United States.
USDA Opens $1B Loan Program for Rural Renewables, Storage
The U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Rural Utility Service opened its platform for letters of interest for a $1 billion loan forgiveness program for renewable energy projects that will serve a mostly rural population. The window will remain open until September 29. USDA will then invite selected applicants to submit a full application. Projects that use wind, solar, hydropower, geothermal, or biomass generation are eligible under the Powering Affordable Clean Energy program.
